THE GUIDE · NO. 15
The 2pm Slump.
How to get through the afternoon without a third coffee
It's 2pm. Your eyelids weigh four kilos each. The coffee machine is calling your name.
Here's what to try first:
- Rethink lunch. A lunch with protein and fibre tends to carry you further than one that's mostly white bread and sugar.
- Walk outside. Ten minutes in daylight is a reset button.
- Drink water. Being even a little dehydrated can make you feel tired.
- Stand up and stretch. Every hour if you can. Your back will thank you too.
- Set a caffeine curfew. Afternoon coffee can come back to haunt you at 3am.
- Nap smart. If you can nap, keep it short, around 20 minutes.
- Keep something in your bag. We keep Daylight, our energy strips that melt on the tongue, in our desk drawer for exactly this time of day.
If you're exhausted most days no matter what you do, mention it to your doctor. It's worth checking.
