Leaking When You Laugh?.
Meet your pelvic floor. It's time you two talked.
You laughed. You sneezed. You jumped on the trampoline at your niece's birthday. And now you know.
Bladder leaks are very common, especially around and after menopause, and they're very treatable. Here's where to start.
- Do your pelvic floor exercises. Squeeze the muscles you'd use to stop yourself passing gas, hold for a few seconds, then fully relax. Repeat several times, a few times a day.
- See a pelvic floor physiotherapist. They're experts in exactly this and can make sure you're doing the exercises right.
- Don't stop drinking water. Cutting back too much can concentrate your urine and irritate your bladder.
- Watch the bladder irritants. Caffeine, alcohol and fizzy drinks can make urgency worse for some women.
- Talk to your doctor. There are more options than you might think. You don't have to just live with it.
Laugh as loud as you want. We'll handle the rest.
Squeeze and smile, deia
