ISSUE NO. 01
Fifty & Frankly Fabulous.
An editor's letter, and why we started this journal
Somewhere around fifty, the world quietly decides you've become less interesting. Fewer magazine covers. Fewer ads that look like you. Fewer conversations that start with "what's next for you?"
We think the world has it exactly backwards.
The women we know in this chapter are running companies, starting companies, leaving marriages, renewing marriages, booking flights alone, learning the cello, saying no without a paragraph of explanation, and finally wearing the red lipstick. They are also, quite often, awake at 3am, sweating through a meeting, and walking into rooms with no idea why. Both things are true. They usually are.
That's what this journal is for. Not a list of symptoms. Not a list of things to fix. A magazine for the woman who is living this chapter out loud, with all of its heat, humor and weirdness.
Why "deia"?
Our name comes from the Latin dea, which means goddess. Not the untouchable, marble-statue kind. The kind who has lived a little, laughed a lot, and knows exactly who she is. Everything we make is "made for deia," which means it's made for her.
What you'll find here
Every issue, we'll put one story on the cover. Some will make you laugh (The 3am Club). Some will make you think (What We Stopped Apologizing For). Some will be about health, always written plainly, honestly, and with the reminder that your own doctor is the best person to talk to about your body.
And one promise
10% of deia's profits go to women's health and breast cancer causes. We'll tell you exactly where, and we'll let you vote on what comes next.
Welcome to the Journal. Pull up a chair. Open a window if you need to.
With love, deia
