Brain Fog.
7 tricks for when the word is right there
You walked in for something. The word was right there. Now it's gone.
Brain fog, meaning trouble with memory, focus and finding words, is common during the menopause transition. For many women it eases with time. In the meantime, these help:
- Write it down. Lists, sticky notes, phone reminders. Outsource your memory without guilt.
- Give things a home. Keys, glasses and phone live in one spot. Always.
- One thing at a time. Multitasking makes fog worse. Finish one task before starting the next.
- Say it out loud. "I'm putting my keys in the bowl." It sounds silly. It works.
- Protect your sleep. Poor sleep makes fog much worse. See The Guide No. 02.
- Move your body. Regular exercise is good for your brain as well as your body.
- Laugh it off. "It'll come to me" is a complete sentence.
If memory problems are severe, sudden or getting worse, talk to your doctor. It's always worth checking.
